Wood blinds look fantastic but are not always best suited to environments where there is a lot of moisture in the room or where the blinds are in direct contact with water. This could include a wet room, a bath with a shower or even a kitchen sink directly in front of the window and subject to a lot of water splashing from the sink and hitting the blind.
While most wooden blinds, if correctly manufactured and treated in the right way will be fine with as limited amount of moisture, harsher environments that see the blind having regular, direct water contact are better suited to having a fully waterproof blind.
Such blinds are found online and are often termed faux wood or wood like blinds. They are usually either made from PVC or some alternate form of polyvinyl and are made in such a way that the water in contact with the blind will run off the slats. Such blinds are fully waterproof therefore water can hit the blinds slats all day long with no negative impact on the blind.
Even although blinds have strings holding the slats together, these are generally fine with direct water contact. A good quality waterproof wood like blind will have no exposed metal parts that are in direct contact with water. If for example your window was low down and water was hitting the metal mechanism at the top of the blind, this would not be ideal as this part of the blinds would in time become rusty. However, so long as the water is just hitting the waterproof slats and strings, you'd be fine.
The California Company has just launched a brand new waterproof 50mm slat wood like blind. The Monterey blinds range is available in 3 different standard colours and offers the perfect solution for wet room windows. For more information visit www.thecaliforniacompany.co.uk or call 0845 123 5661
